Outlline: This is a kind of message game (Chinese whispers): starting from your house to the school, you dictate a voice memo describing the path you take and the sights you see there. And then you pass the voice memo to someone else who draw a map of the area. 

 

On the first day, participants and  I introduce each other, and explain the assignment. Giving a cassette tape recorder, a cassette tape, two batteries, a earphone with microphone to each participants.

On the second day, participants work on the recording and mapping. They records when they arrive at school from their homes in the morning. At the afternoon they exchanges voice memos at random and start to draw the map. 

On the third day, we exhibit the maps with the audios in the studio and have a discussion.

　Narrating Cartography（口述地図製作法）

 

　私たちは、私たちの身の回りの風景や毎日通る道について、どれくらいのことを知っているのでしょうか。そしてそれを他者に伝えることができるのでしょうか。
　このワークショップは、一種の伝言ゲームです。ある地点を出発点として、あなたが歩いた道とそこで見た風景をボイスメモとして口述で記録し、その音声を他者に渡して地図に書き表してもらう作業を行います。そのプロセスを仮に「口述地図製作法」と呼んでみます。
　他者に伝えるという目的を持ったときに、普段あなたが何気なく見てきた風景や道の中に新鮮な発見を見つけられるかもしれません。また、あなたの風景の描写を他者がどのように解釈して地図に書き表すのかということも、興味深い発見を与えてくれるでしょう。
　美術が「見て、感じ、考え、表し、伝える」という、人間の社会生活におけるコミュニケーションの根幹に寄与する知性であるとしたとき、このエクササイズを通してその可能性について学ぶ機会としましょう。
　ワークショップ後は成果物の展示を行い、ボイスメモを作成した人と地図を書き表した人で地図の内容についてディスカッションを行います。
